Oak Creek Vineyards and Winery, Cornville AZ

We continue our Sippin’ September with Oak Creek Vineyards, located in the Page Springs area of Cornville.   We don’t head into this area very often because of the drive, why drive when you can walk to several really great locations in Old Town.  Well, here is why. Oak Creek Vineyards and Winery offers very reasonably priced wines that are tasty. Not to mention, or mention as I am now, they have one of the best wine club memberships out there.

We pulled in on a warm Saturday afternoon around 2:30.  This place was packed, they had three buses and a limo out front and all those folks were tasting the wine.  Fortunately we pulled up and as we were walking in, one of the groups left, freeing up some counter space at the tasting bar.

There is a lot of staff in this place, but they were all running around helping, cleaning up or prepping food.  Busy for sure. One of the things I liked about this tasting, was that they use wine tasting boards. You get a wood paddle like stick, with your five glasses of tastings at the same time.  This is nice because you can sample them all and then revisit. Derek and I shared this tasting since we were on our third tasting room at this point. Gotta slow it down a bit.

Oak Creek also offers a nice little gift shop, and a lot of patio outdoor seating with misters to keep things cool. They don’t really offer much in the way of indoor seating and that is probably why the tasting room can flow so easily.  Grab your wine and head outside or you can stand at the bar tasting. Either option works.

As per usual we did the red flight.  The wines are nice and like I mentioned it was nice to be able to do a quick sample of each one and then flow back to try again.  The only one I did not like was The Fire; a Syrah, Zinfandel, Tempranillo blend, which really surprised me because those are all wines I generally really like.  When I mentioned to one of the staff members that this would be great on a piece of toast, she said it was their best seller. I was taken aback by this because both Derek and I felt that seemed as if this was more of a dessert wine than a red wine that you would have with dinner.  Derek even asked if it had residual sugars in it because it was so jammy and sweet. It does not, but I did look for some jelly made with it, because seriously this would be so good on a piece of toast.

The Merlot had a bit of a smokiness to it, which I enjoy, so ended up getting a bottle of that and a bottle of Syrah.  Both really nice wines. This is where they got us on the membership. When you join the membership ALL of the bottles are $22, regardless of pricing on the menu.  That is an incredible deal. They offer a two, four or six club level. On top of the bottles at $22 each, you also get an additional 5, 10 or 15% off of additional purchases.  All of that along with the unlimited tastings! What an incredible deal. A good wine at the grocery store will cost you that and at least these are local wines.

Swing by Oak Creek Vineyards and Winery, grab your tasting and sit outside, watch the crowds of folks and then join the club.  Weekends are busy, but they tend to be less busy during the week. They are definitely the best value of the four Page Springs area vineyards.  Oh, and have a drink for us while you are there!
