Happy Father's Day. I thought I'd share my version of the perfect Manhattan. It's all about the ingredients.
- 2 parts bourbon whiskey - Jefferson's Reserve is my go to
- 1 part sweet vermouth (red) - Antica Ricetta is my go to
- 1 or 2 dashes bitters - I'm currently using Peychaud's which I found at Little Moos Gourmet Market in Cottonwood AZ
- 1 or 2 cherries - I'm currently using Woodford Reserve Bourbon Cherries
Put everything except the cherries into a shaker or bar glass with a few cubes of ice. Stir well using a bar spoon. DO NOT SHAKE!! Whiskey cocktails should be stirred, you only shake cocktails that contain fruit juice, cream, or syrups. Strain into a lowball glass and add cherries. A Manhattan is alternately served in a martini glass, but personally I prefer lowball glassware.
Some bars will put in cherry juice, but it does not need it IMHO so I don't add it.
