Today we introduce you to Salvatore Vineyards Tasting Room in Old Town Scottsdale. We had visited this location once or twice in the past. We love this venue, it’s a great space. It is classy, clean, sleek and you feel comfortable just walking in.
Kelly the tasting room manager was there and he was very informative. He was telling us about the three separate labels they now offer. Passion Cellars, Cabal Cellars and of course Salvatore Vineyards which is their reserve label. Today we were here just to sample the Salvatore wines. We will visit the other labels while we are in Jerome.
We have tried Salvatore Vineyards in the past and we have found that they are very fruit forward, which is not our favorite profile. Since taste buds can change it is good to revisit on occasion to see if you still feel the same way. We do. While none of the wines are bad, they are all actually good, they just are not to our taste. We like more bold in our wine and they didn’t really offer that.
Kelly did pour a small tasting of their port which is different, it comes in regular sized wine bottle, so it is a bit miss leading in that you don’t know you are about to try a port. Once you smell it, you know that it is a port. I am not a fan of port and this bottle for me, just solidified that. It isn’t bad, it just isn’t to my taste.
The name Salvatore comes from winemaker Jason Domanico’s grandfather who was also a wine maker. It’s no accident they use the Salvatore label for their reserve wines meant for aging.
While we were visiting with Kelly he mentioned that Scottsdale is planning to tear down the entire set of buildings where they currently are. The plan is to put in a full service condo/shopping concept, similar to the entire Scottsdale Waterfront area. Condominiums on the top and shopping and restaurants underneath. It is a great concept, but we are sad to hear that they are tearing down such iconic areas in Old Town. They are slowly turning it into New Town Scottsdale.
Overall, we had a good experience, good conversation and were relaxed for our entire visit. The biggest drawback in our opinion is the price point. The wines are currently all at $70 a bottle, and the tasting fee is $25 for four wines.. So there you have it folks, If you are in Scottsdale it’s definitely worth a stop in here for the experience along.
