A few years ago Derek and I had gone wine tasting in Scottsdale.  They were quite crowded so we ended up sharing a table with an older couple.  Since we were all stuck together (I say that in jest) we struck up conversation with one another.  We somehow got on the topic of travel and since this was just the beginning of our adventures we had a lot of questions.  

I mentioned that flights are very expensive unless you time everything just right.  He sat up with a smile on his face and said have you ever heard of Scott’s Cheap Flights?  I looked at Derek, Derek looked at me and then we both looked at the gentleman and said, no, what is that?  He then explained to us how it worked and that he had just flown to Spain for two weeks for the bargain price of $450 round trip.  My interest was piqued and I made a note in my phone to do some additional research on this Scott’s Cheap Flights.

The next day I pulled up the information and began my research to see if this is something that would work for us.  I found that for $39 a year they will email flights departing from my selected airports whenever a deal comes across.  I figured for $39, I would give it a shot and see if it was really worthwhile.

As I attempted to figure out how it worked and signed us up for it, I started to really think it through.  Because we live in Phoenix, there likely won’t be a lot that comes through for our airport. But, we are driving distance or even a short flight, to San Diego, Los Angeles and even Las Vegas.  So I added any airport that was within a 5 hour drive. Which ended up giving me a lot more options to work with.

Once I started getting the emails, which at times can be upwards of five or six a day, but most often two or three a day, I really began to figure out how this could work.  I started just looking at the deal itself and then, following the instructions in the email, but changing my depart flight to Phoenix. Most often the deals are just a bit more than they would be from the many other airports. In my mind this would be the cost for the flight or drive we would need to take to get to the other airports.  So I would obviously end up choosing Phoenix instead of making a trip to get to one of the other airports.

This has worked out great.  We have gotten flights for Fiji and Puerto Rico in less than a year and saved hundreds of dollars using Scott’s Cheap Flights. So many other offers have come in but they just don’t seem to be working with our schedules or our lives for the time frames the trip would allow.  I can tell you that I check them as often as they come in just to see if we can make another dream trip or bucket list item happen.

As I sit here typing I receive yet another email from Scott’s Cheap Flights.  I will let you know if it is a future trip in the making!

Scott’s Cheap Flights is almost one of those secrets you don’t want to get out, but to be honest, we want everyone to Live Life, Love Life, Drink Life and Travel Life!
