Starting May 7, 2025, all travelers 18 years and older will need a REAL ID compliant driver's license or another acceptable form of government ID to fly within the United States.
What is a REAL ID?
A REAL ID is a state-issued ID (like a driver’s license) that meets new federal security standards. You’ll know you have one if your license has a star in the upper right corner. See examples of what the star may look like depending on your state of residence below!

No star? That means it’s not REAL ID compliant and won’t be accepted for domestic flights after May 7, 2025.
Where will you need it?
You will need a REAL ID when traveling via airport for any domestic flight.
Planning a cruise? A REAL ID is not required by cruise lines at this time, but if your trip includes a flight, you’ll still need it to fly.
What to do if you’re not REAL ID ready
If you don’t see a star on your driver’s license, please schedule an appointment at your local DMV/MVD as soon as possible.
Here in Arizona, you can use one of the MVD Authorized Third Party providers instead of waiting in line at the MVD office.
