Vacation Destination – Home Sweet Home

Our vacation destination for March was Jamaica for five nights.  Unfortunately, with the Coronavirus Epidemic we had to cancel. We had considered rescheduling to a date further out, but with so many unknowns in the travel industry we decided it would be best for us to cancel the trip altogether.  Do not fear, we will still be taking trips, once this is over.

This means that we know first-hand the disappointment many are feeling about having to cancel travel plans.  Rest assured it is only for a short time and we will all get to travel again. Until that time, let’s talk about turning your home into your vacation destination.

The weekend we were to go to Jamaica, we turned our back yard into Ja’Fake’ma!  We made beach drinks, turned on the reggae music, sat by the pool and relaxed. We made it into such a ‘Fake-ation’ that we even had our first cocktail at around 11am.  I mean, if you are going to pretend to be in a vacation destination you might as well go big!

In hindsight we should have heated the pool so we could go in.  But since I had just come up with that idea at like 10am, I feel like we were able to pull it off fairly well.  For dinner we ordered delivery, had wine and stayed by the pool for the whole event. To top it off we ended up sitting in the hot tub and enjoying drinks in there as well.

So here are some ideas for home vacations:

  • Beachy/Resort - Put on your swimwear, a hat and sunglasses.  Put an umbrella up outside, sit and read a book. Turn your music loud!  Pre-make a batch of cocktails so that it is easy to refill them as if you were at a bar.  I recommend beachy drinks like Pina-Colada, Bahama Mama, Mai Tai or whatever type of fruity vacation drink you like.  I would even put some coconut oil on to get that vacation smell! Take some fun vacation photos.
  • Adventure Vacation - Create a course in your backyard using your chairs to climb over, under are run/walk around them, a ladder for climbing or your pool for cannon balls!  Be sure you wear attire you would normally wear for a hike or the adventure trip you were planning. Remember attitude is the best approach. Take photos and post them on our blog for the ideas you were able to come up with.
  • Cruise - Turn on your tv with the ocean playing on (you could move it to your backyard or patio area if you want an outdoor feel), make sure the video you are playing has sound, light a candle, put your cruise attire on and have your camera ready for some great shots.

You can only do so much, it is more important that you keep your attitude in check and remember we are all in this together.  Stay positive, stay safe, stay home and this will be over before you know it.

Living, loving, drinking, and traveling through life.
